Movie Review: The Great Alaskan Race 2019
The Great Alaskan Race is a thrilling adventure movie that tells the incredible true story of the Serum Run in 1925. The movie brings to life this amazing event and showcases the bravery and perseverance of a team of mushers who risked their lives to deliver medicine to people in Nome, Alaska, during an outbreak of diphtheria.
The plot is well-constructed with several unpredictable twists and turns that keep you on the edge of your seat. I was invested in every single character’s journey, especially Leonhard Seppala (played by Brian Presley) and Togo, his beloved sled dog. Their bond added an emotional depth to the story that tugged at my heartstrings.
The acting was also outstanding, with all actors bringing their A-game. Brian Presley gave an exceptional performance as Leonhard Seppala – he displayed both strength and vulnerability throughout the movie. Brad Leland gave a memorable performance as Mayor George Maynard, while Henry Thomas as Dr. Welch delivered a strong performance despite his limited screen time.
Director Brian Presley did an impressive job of capturing the beauty and harshness of Alaska’s wilderness through stunning cinematography and production design – making it feel like we were experiencing this life-threatening journey alongside these brave people.
I enjoyed how they used special effects for Togo’s point-of-view shots while running – nothing overly done but enough to add some excitement.
One aspect I found lacking was dialogues- they were cliché at times which made it hard for me to connect with characters sometimes, however overall its direction overpowered those aspects for me.
Overall The Great Alaskan Race left me breathless; it had a perfect blend of adventure, emotion, heroism & suspense which will make you feel proud human courage & determination! It’s definitely worth watching if you’re looking for something inspiring!
