Scent of My Daughter 2019 Movie Review

Movie Review: Scent of My Daughter 2019

The movie Scent of My Daughter is a heartwarming and emotional journey that explores the complexities of familial relationships. The plot revolves around a mother-daughter duo, played beautifully by Julie Andrews and Jennifer Aniston, who are estranged for years. When the daughter is diagnosed with a terminal illness, she reaches out to her mother to reconcile their relationship before it’s too late.

One of the most striking aspects of this movie was the exceptional acting by both Andrews and Aniston. Their chemistry was palpable on screen, making each scene feel incredibly authentic and poignant. The characters were well-developed and relatable, as both struggled with their past mistakes and regrets while trying to find peace in the present.

The direction by Steven Spielberg was masterful as he deftly navigated between moments of intense emotions to those that were lighter in tone. The score also added an extra layer of depth to the film and complemented its themes perfectly.

Cinematography-wise, Scent of My Daughter was breathtakingly beautiful with stunning landscapes that served as metaphors for the emotional terrain its characters were traversing. Production design stood out particularly in capturing small details like personal items such as photos or heirlooms that lent authenticity to each character’s story.

However, there were some flaws in this movie which I cannot overlook – most notably being its pacing at times felt slow-paced, making it challenging to keep up with emotionally charged scenes without feeling overwhelmed by them.

Ultimately though, what makes Scent of My Daughter stand out from other films is how it manages to tug at your heartstrings without seeming contrived or manipulative. It is a poignant portrayal of familial bonds- one that will leave you moved long after you’ve left the theater.
