Movie Review: The Book of Job 2021
The Book of Job is a thought-provoking drama that delves into the age-old question of why bad things happen to good people. Directed by Andrew Oh, the film follows Job (played by Benjamin Onyango), a successful businessman who seems to have it all – wealth, happiness, and a loving family. However, his life takes a tragic turn when he loses everything he holds dear in quick succession.
One of the strengths of The Book of Job is its cast. Onyango delivers an outstanding performance as a man grappling with grief and despair. He brings depth and nuance to his portrayal of a character whose faith is sorely tested. The supporting actors are also commendable, especially the young actors who play Job’s children.
The film’s score is another highlight. Composed by Mark Leggett, it perfectly captures the emotional arc of the story. It blends classical and contemporary elements to create an evocative soundscape that heightens every scene.

But where The Book Of Job really excels is in its scriptwriting. With dialogues written by Sean Sellars, the movie manages to strike just the right balance between faith-based themes and real-world struggles without coming off as preachy or heavy-handed.
Overall, I found The Book Of Job an engrossing film that leaves you pondering long after it ends about what happens when we lose our faith but desperately try not lose hope in our darkest moments.” On some levels though I felt like some parts could have been condensed as certain scenes dragged on for too long which took away from my enjoyment at times but apart from this minor quibble – this movie deserves recognition for its fresh storytelling approach while remaining true on exploring timeless themes.
