Movie Review: Loves Me, Loves Me Not 2019
Loves Me, Loves Me Not is a charming and bittersweet romantic drama that had me hooked from start to finish. Directed by the talented Bulgarian filmmaker Gergana Dimitrova, this film tells the story of two strangers, Emily and George, who cross paths on a fateful day in London.
The plot of Loves Me, Loves Me Not is simple yet effective. It follows the unfolding relationship between Emily (Isabelle Chester) and George (Luke de Lacey), as they grapple with their own personal challenges while navigating their feelings for one another. The pacing of the film is steady, allowing us to fully immerse ourselves in their journey without feeling rushed or dragged out.
What really stood out to me was the outstanding performances by both Chester and de Lacey. They brought a depth and authenticity to their characters that made them feel fully realized and relatable. Their chemistry was palpable onscreen, and I found myself rooting for them every step of the way.
Dimitrova’s direction was also noteworthy. Her use of color grading lent an ethereal quality to certain scenes that added emotional weight to the story. The score by composer Adam Szabo complemented this perfectly with its haunting melodies.
Production design-wise, there were some lovely touches throughout – particularly in Emily’s apartment which felt like an extension of her personality – although there weren’t any elaborate set pieces or grandiose locations given it’s an intimate low budget film which didn’t distract from its core elements.
Overall, Loves Me, Loves Me Not is a beautiful film that explores love in all its complexities. It left me feeling warm inside yet emotionally spent at times but certainly memorable nonetheless! Fans of romance movies will appreciate its tender approach while those looking for something thought-provoking will get more than they bargained for!
