Movie Review: Bill Tilghman and the Outlaws 2019

As a movie critic, I recently watched the action-packed western “Bill Tilghman and the Outlaws” and I have to say, it left me feeling both exhilarated and deeply moved. The film is inspired by true events, which adds an extra layer of authenticity to the already gripping plot.

The story follows famed lawman Bill Tilghman, played brilliantly by Robert Carradine, who must come out of retirement to track down a gang of ruthless outlaws who are terrorizing a small Oklahoma town. Alongside him on this dangerous mission are his former protege Chris Madsen (Johnny Crawford) and infamous gunslinger Frank Canton (Darby Hinton).

One of the standout aspects of this film is the exceptional acting from its ensemble cast. Carradine delivers a remarkable performance as Tilghman, capturing both his charm and toughness with ease. Crawford brings depth and nuance to his character as well, making him more than just your typical sidekick.

Director Wayne Shipley deserves major accolades for creating such an immersive experience for viewers. From the sweeping landscapes that serve as stunning backdrops to intense gunfights that will leave you on edge until their conclusion – every shot is executed with precision.

Another strong point is Kevin Matossian’s score which perfectly complements each scene’s tonality while adding gravitas when necessary.

One minor issue could be some dialogue feels stilted at times in comparison with other scenes; however, this minor setback does not diminish what is overall a fantastic cinematic experience.

Despite its wild west setting Bill Tilghman and The Outlaws tackles issues that still feel relevant today including camaraderie among law enforcement officers also humanizing figures once viewed as “bad guys”. This movie manages to deliver thrills while still tackling important themes underlining what makes cinema so essential: A way for us to reflect on our past while imagining our future.
